Remutaka (Rimutaka) Cycle Trail 3-Day Independent (with bag transfer)
- Duration: 3 Days
Day 1 - Set off from our base in Petone at the start of the trail. Cruise alongside the harbour until you meet the Hutt River, then follow the Hutt River Trail to Upper Hutt for your first night where the sound of Ruru and other native birds help you drift into a well deserved sleep.
Day 2 - Trace the historic Remutaka (Rimutaka) Rail Trail to Cross Creek in South Wairarapa. This part of the trail follows the historic rail tracks that were once plied by the unusual Fell Locomotives as the principal route up the east coast of the North Island. You will enjoy the thrilling descent into the Wairarapa Valley. Spend the night on the shores of Lake Wairarapa.
Day 3 - Follows the Lake Wairarapa shoreline to Ocean Beach and around to Turakirae Head, home of the largest seal colony in the Wellington region. Continue on to Orongorongo station and back into Petone.
Extra - Add an extra day to your itinerary to explore a working sheep and beef farm and take a guided wine tour in Martinborough, enjoy everything the wonderful Wairarapa region has to offer. Or take a guided birding tour to understand more about the unique New Zealand island ecosystems.
Support: Choosing the Independent option, you agree that you are able to undertake basic bicycle mechanics, fix punctures etc. Bags will be transferred to your accommodation along with any of your food supplies for dinner and breakfast. On day 2 and 3 there are NO SHOPS that can be easily visited, please ensure you are prepared with adequate food and water.
Meal packages can be purchased at a cost of $140 per person, including 3 lunches, 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts.
Single Supplement - price is based on twin-share or double accommodation, if you wish to have a single room, a single supplement of $200 applies.
