Two days and two nights exploring the highlights of the Remutaka Cycle Trail

Your Remutaka Highlights 2 day adventure is based in the South Wairarapa. You will stay in Martinborough or Greytown in premier accommodation.
Arrival day
Arrive at one of our cute country villages (location is dependent on availability) and settle into your sumptuous accommodation, where you will enjoy amazing provincial hospitality. Dine onsite and explore the village with an evening stroll or ride.
Day one ride 55km (can be shortened)
We depart our Martinborough depot at 9.30am and shuttle to Maymorn Station near Upper Hutt. You will be given a briefing before riding the Remutaka Rail Trail and on through to Greytown. Passing through 5 tunnels and two incredible suspension bridges. This in a beautiful ride through native bush with incredible history. Visit Featherston and Greytown.
Finish with a beverage on the deck of the Whiteswan Hotel in Greytown before being returned to your accommodation and more top quality cuisine for the night.
Day two ride - Martinborough and surrounds (10 - 60 km)
Option 1)
Martinborough and Environs
Your second day of riding is very customisable. If you have never visited Martinborough we would suggest exploring this boutique wine village, sampling some of the amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on offer (amongst others). We offer several other great loops enjoyed by many local with varying terrain and difficult and can discuss these option when you arrive, or during your booking process.
Option 2)
Lake Ferry - Cape Palliser - 40 kms
We start our ride at The Lake Ferry Hotel.
Either ride along the beach to Whangaimoana, or ride north on the Lake Ferry Road to the Cape Palliser Road turnoff – then ride south east on Cape Palliser Road to the Cape Palliser Lighthouse.
Things to look for:
The spectacular rock formations - The Putangirua Pinnacles (featured in The Lord of the Rings). From the Putangirua Car Park there is an optional up to 2 hour walk to The Pinnacles and return (a perfect stop for lunch) - a delicious packed lunch will be supplied by us.
Visit the North Island’s largest Fur Seal Colony – turn off at Mātakitaki a Kupe Reserve sign and find the seal kindergarten pool by going as far down to the left - right amongst the rocks.
Cape Palliser Lighthouse – walk for the top (climb the 253 steps) for sweeping views over Palliser Bay.
Kupe’s Sail - This huge sandstone slab, on the south Wairarapa coast, is named Ngā Rā o Kupe (Kupe’s Sail), as it resembles the sail of a Polynesian double-hulled canoe. Kupe is an early ancestor of many Māori tribes, and is said to have camped on the flats near this rock as he explored the coastline.
At the end of the day we will transport you back to Martinborough.

Differential weekend rates
Due to weekend demand on accomodation in our region, bookings that include a Friday or Saturday night stay incur an additional charge. If you start Thursday, Friday or Saturday the tour will be a little more expensive that if you start on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
