Remutaka (Rimutaka) Cycle Trail - 3-Day Adventure
- Duration: 3 Days
Day 1 - Take our daily shuttle from Wellington to Petone. We will set you up and you can head off, either along the popular Jackson Street Petone or head straight to the Trail. Ride along the Petone foreshore until you meet the Hutt River. The Hutt River Trail meanders to Upper Hutt for your first night where you will enjoy a delicious feast before the sound of Ruru and other native birds help you drift into a well deserved sleep.
Day 2 - Trace the historic Remutaka (Rimutaka) Rail Trail to Cross Creek in South Wairarapa. This part of the trail follows the historic rail tracks that were once plied by the unusual Fell Locomotives as the principal route north on the east coast of the North Island. You will enjoy the thrilling descent into the Wairarapa Valley. Our Kiwi hospitality continues when you are met with an ice cold drink and spend the night on the shores of Lake Wairarapa, at the boutique Martinborough wine village or perhaps Lake Ferry for the night. (options will be given on booking and may be subject to availability)
Day 3 - Join the trail again following the Lake Wairarapa shoreline to Ocean Beach and around to Turakirae Head, home of the largest seal colony in the Wellington region. Continue on to Orongorongo station before being shuttled back to the start..You are welcome to enjoy the final 'unofficial' leg of the trail to complete the loop back to Petone.
