Remutaka Four Day Explorer - Guaranteed Departures
- Duration: 4 Days
- Location: Martinborough, Wellington
Departing on Monday and taking you through the week to Thursday - This tour will depart as long as we have 2 riders registered.
We explore the highlights of the Remutaka Cycle Trail and enjoy exploring vineyards in Martinborough and the whole of the Palliser Bay Coastline!
Day One: (Cycle 40km)
Depart Wellington 9.15 am - We can collect you from your CBD hotel just before this time or meet you at the Wellington I-site (our final collection point). You will be shuttled from Wellington to the Start of the Rimuaka Incline (we usually start at Maymourn Station) where you will be fitted with bikes, lunches and all other necessities before enjoying a self guided day on the rail trail. Your destination is Featherston - approximately 40 km into the future.
You will be met at Featherston and transferred to Martinborough for your first night at the Martinborough Hotel.
Day Two: Guided Wine and Vine (Cycle 10-50km and relax)
We set off at 11am for a leisurely day among the vines in Martinborough Wine Village. Visiting three diverse cellar doors and an olive grove with the most experienced guides in town. We will enjoy some of the best Pinot Noir in the world and a delicious vineyard lunch.
Day Three: Palliser Bay Explorer Tour (Walking up to 3 hours and Minibus)
Setting off at around 10.45 we head out to the coast with most. Palliser Bay has a unique place in New Zealand's history as the landing place of Pacific Explorer 'Kupe' and one of the earliest pastoral farming areas in New Zealand. We will walk to the Putangirua Pinnacles, visit Ngawi Fishing Village and climb 250 steps to the Southern most lighthouse in New Zealand's North Island after visiting the regions largest fur seal colony. This is a day you will always remember.
Day Four: Complete the Remutaka Cycle Trail
Taking the hard road around the Wild South Coast or the High Road along the Hutt River, this day includes something for everyone!
Ocean Beach to Orongorongo or Petone is one wild ride, suitable for confident and physically able cyclists. Ride between 18 and 50 kilometres (we will discuss the best option for you). This is a demanding but exhilarating day where you will pass beautiful farms and be able walk in the shoes of colonial settlers.
Or, for the less confident rider;
Kaitoke to Petone is a beautiful 40kilometre ride through the Hutt Valley on a well groomed riverside trail. There are lots of picnic opportunities and you will have plenty of time to visit The Dowse Gallery and Museum or perhaps tackle the Te Whiti Riser at the end of the day. Perhaps a stroll along Petone Foreshore or a ride out to meet others who have ridden the Wild Coast.
